Fred-Med (Loop 345)
This project, located in the Medical Center area, is called a grade-separation
project. TxDOT plans to run Medical Drive under Fredericksburg Road to make
Medical Drive a street uninterrupted by traffic signals at the busy
intersection.
Ultimately, this project will improve safety and provide a faster route to
medical facilities for emergency service vehicles. The construction contract for
this project was awarded to Ballenger Construction for $12.2 million, roughly
$3.9 million under the amount budgeted through gas taxes and other traditional
means. Construction is broken up into four incentives-laden phases; the entire
project is expected to last 24 months.
Work was initially scheduled to begin early 2012, but is delayed to early fall
2012 due to utility conflicts.
